Seán Dunne Festival News...

Awards Announced
The Seán Dunne winners were announced on Thursday March 18, in a ceremony hosted by special guest - author - John Boyne. The National Winner is Ciaran Hodgers from County Louth; the National Junior Winner is Kilian O'Flanagan from Dublin 9 and the Local Winner is Shannon O'Reilly from Kings Channell in Waterford. “Lawns and poems and tales are art…” An afternoon of reading in Central Library. Readers of different genres will be able to listen to five different authors reading from and discussing their work.

Featuring:

  • Christine Dwyer Hickey, is the award-winning author of a number of novels including Last Train from Liguria
  • Arlene Hunt is the author of a popular crime series including False Intentions, Black Sheep, Missing Presumed Dead and Undertow.
  • Roisin Meaney, author of children and adults novels is the writer of Half Seven on a Thursday and seven other titles.
  • Pauline McLynn is the creator of the character of private eye Leo Street and has written four other titles.
  • Mary O Donnell, award-winning poet, short story writer and novelist will read from her work, The Ark Builders.

Travelling from north of Waterford
Cross Rice Bridge – turning left. Travel down Quay past the Clock Tower, numerous carparks and a white-tented stage (the Millenium Plaza) on your left. Follow the road around The Tower Hotel staying in the right-hand lane. Find parking after the traffic lights. City Hall is on your right.

Travelling from south of Waterford
Stay on main road as if heading for the Quays. City Hall is just after the Theatre Royal on your left-hand-side.

How to get there...

Travelling from north of Waterford
Cross Rice Bridge, turn left and park in one of the car parks along the Quay. Cross the street at the clock tower and continue straight up through John Roberts Square, straight up Broad Street (Dunnes is on the left) and turn left onto Lady Lane. The Library is approximately 20 meters on the left along Lady Lane.

Travelling from south of Waterford
Go straight through the Butlerstown Roundabout on the outskirts of the City. Continue straight, passing Waterford Crystal, continuing along Manor Street Parnell Street and The Mall until you reach the Quays.  Continue along the Quay, there are a number of car parks on the right, park along here. Cross the street at the clock tower and continue straight up through John Roberts Square, straight up Broad Street (Dunnes is on the left) and turn left onto Lady Lane. The Library is approximately 20 meters on the left along Lady Lane.

From the Tower Hotel 
Cross the street outside the hotel. Turn left, then right up Catherine Street and left onto Lady Lane. The library is on the right approximately 200 meters along the street.

Greyfriars' Municipal Gallery, Greyfriars St., Waterford

Greyfriars is one of the venues for the Seán Dunne Writers' Festival. It features an exhibition by W.I.T. Design students based on the poems of Seán Dunne.

The Gallery is open during the festival at the following times:
Tuesday evening 7pm – exhibition opening with refreshments (All Welcome)
Thursday 11am – 5pm.
Friday 11am - 9pm
Saturday 11am - 5pm

How to get to Greyfriars Municipal Gallery

Travelling from north of Waterford
Cross over bridge – turning left. Travel down Quay past the Clock Tower and numerous carparks and a white-tented stage (the Millenium Plaza) on your left. Look to your right and you will see a “Conquer Cancer” shop on the corner of “Greyfriars St." The Gallery is in a church halfway up that street on your left.
For Parking, the Quay is the best.

Travelling from south of Waterford
Stay on main road and head for the Quay. You will turn left around Reginald’s Tower. You will pass a small lane on your left (Bailey’s New Street) and it is the next turn on your left. “Greyfriars St." The Gallery is in a church halfway up that street on your left.
